Ruffino Romitorio Di Santedame Toscana 2004 IGT

Ruffino DI Santedame 2004 Toscana 2004 IGT (60% Colorino and 40% Merlot), $38.24-$69.99, 92 points, Bordeaux in color, black at the core, with a thin sliver of silver about the rim.
Upon uncorking the bottle, sweet floral aromas followed, and when pouring, swishing, and breathing, came a lovely bouquet of crushed berries and sweet cooking spice.
Medium-plus body carries good acidity with satin-like layers of tannin (Very drinkable red wine!).
Flavors of licorice,  plum, and black fruit dominate, but nuanced flavors of coffee, dried bay leaves, and flowers make for a more complex and elegant wine.
Finally, Ruffino finishes long on black and white pepper with a hint of chipotle.

  1. I just came across your blog after finding this wine earlier today. I was pleasantly suprised to see that someone from NH, as am I, was writing about the wine. I like your blog and see that you have a very extensive list of wines that you've reviewed. However, as personal lover of pinot noir, I couldn't help but notice that you had no category for this when taking a quick look at your indexed wines. Did I miss something or this a varietal you happen to avoid?

    1. Anon. Thank you for visiting, for your kind words, and your inquiry!
Pinot Noir is represented in my Index of reviewed wine just under Merlot wines, but "The work in progress" streamlined list hasn't begun yet. I'm afraid that the list is not extensive, and the PN wines I have in my cellar are more than the PN wines I've tasted; however if there is something you have in mind, and if I have it, I'll be glad to review it.
      Thanks for your feed-back,
