Tenuta Alzatura D.O.C.G. 2008 Montefalco Sagrantino

Tenuta Alzatura D.O.C.G. 2008 Montefalco Sagrantino, $29.74-$37.99, 93 points,
poured a deep opaque ruby trending brick red toward the mercury lined rim.
Though the aroma is a bit "sleepy", a pleasant and subtle toasty black currant with a coffee note were very good.
The luscious full body carried good acidity with layered "dusty" tannin.
Gorgeous black cherry and plum were rich enough to tame the escalating tannin, but nuanced coffee, cocoa, and dried herb notes balanced this surprisingly fruity red wine.
Finished fair on the trailing palate with just a touch of the 14% alcohol.
At under $30, this is an extremely good value.
A Cecchi Family Estates Wine.

  1. Andrea Cecchi is a talented winemaker and a very genuine man. His Villa Cerna CCR is amazing as is, of course, Coevo. Alzatura is exactly as you say - a tremendous value. Thanks for the shout out and the link!
