Terralsole 2007 Brunello Di Montalcino

Terralsole 2007 Brunello Di Montalcino, $49.99-$74.99, 93 points, poured a bright orange/red trending a coppery red with a clear wine ring at the leggy glass wall.
Aromatic sea-breezes, roses, and black cherry were pleasant.
Medium-bodied carried very good acidity with still potent and escalating tannin which hinted at the age-ability of this bone-dry red wine.
Crisp flavors of strawberry, black cherry, tart pomegranate, cardamom, and bourbon notes were very good.
Finished long on the trailing palate with warmth from the 14% alcohol and red pepper spice.

  1. "Aromatic sea-breezes." Such a great descriptor.

  2. TV: Someone loves Brunello!

VG:A while back, I forget who, a wine blogger asked his/her readers if they ever had experienced such a descriptor, and I looked back and found I had several times; some would use saline, but I think that sea breeze has an added depth that saline doesn't have; anyway, the smell is locked away in my brain from days when as a kid I'd crawl over beach rocks and look for crabs , sand-dollars, starfish, and the like. TMI!

  3. Dennis, Mario Bollag is a great guy and he's the former owner of Il Palazzone. TerralSole is his new estate and he makes a meaty Brunello with lots of savory character. His 2009 was very good but typical of the vintage. I've not had his 2007 but I bet it's great and it sounds like you loved it. Further, I can't wait to get my hands on the 2010. Thanks for the data point amico mio.

    1. John: Good Sunday morning to you!
As usual, you are the man, the Italian wineman, and there's probably no better advocate for Italian wines: I'm proof of that.
      Thanks for the info!
