L. A. Cetto Estate Valle de Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, Mexico 2013 Chardonnay, $9.99, 89 points, poured a very light brass color trending gray at the glass shallows.
Subtle but lovely aromas of wild flowers, tangerine, and pineapple impressed.
The light-plus body showed no oak, but good acidity and flavors reflective of the aromas were excellent.
Finished well on the trailing palate, hints of white pepper, and an unnoticeable 12.5% alcohol.
If you, like me, get bogged-down with heavy Cali Chardonnay white wines, or odd tasting unoaked Chardonnays (Chablis being the notable and consistent exception), then this south-of-the border bottling just might surprise you; it surprised me.
I bought this Chardonnay at the Hannaford's Super Market in Bedford.
