Hecht And Bannier 2011 Bandol Red Wine (A.O.C.),
$22.94-$26.99, 91 points, poured core black and finally waking purple/red near the horizon of the bright wine ring, but the glass sky was cloudy with tears (I told you Bandol was mysterious).
Aromas were earth, underbrush, toast, coffee, a bit plummy, with hints of black cherry.
Some of us like our red wines with a tannic backbone, but this Bandol had an exoskeleton (woolly)!
Medium-plus body and good acidity managed well the flavors reflective of the aromas with just a hint of mint.
Finished long on the trailing palate, herbaceous, warm spice notes, and a surprisingly accommodating 14.5% alcohol.
Varietals were 80% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache, and 10% Cinsault.

This sounds like a very interesting wine.
ReplyDeleteI might of added the descriptor: 'muscular', and noted that this is probably a good candidate for the cellar.
DeleteMuscular and mysterious? Sounds even better.
