Columbia Winery Columbia Valley Washington 2013 Merlot

Columbia Winery Columbia Valley Washington 2013 Merlot, $7.79-$16.99, 88+ points, was a deep ruby with hints of maroon transitioning crushed black fruit at the clear wine ring.
Soft aromas of plum, earth, cedar, and hints of chocolate were quite good.
If you like a red wine (Merlot) that is round, soft, fruity with just enough of an edge to it, then this remarkably good, and less than $8 Merlot is for you.
Medium-plus body with fair acidity and tame, but supportive tannin with truffle, boysenberry, blueberry, and plum flavors went down smooth and tasty!
Finished on the trailing palate, a bit tart, and with a well integrated 13.9% alcohol.
I don't usually like inexpensive Merlots, but this was a gem!

  1. Merlot is probably well suited to the climate in Washington. This sounds like it would be quite a food friendly wine.

    1. VG: I paired this Merlot with a Tostada; Mexican cuisine I usually reserve for Zinfandel.
