McIntosh Apple And "J" 2017 Pinot Gris, Aroma To Entice Eve!

J (California) 2017 Pinot Gris, $12.74-$16.99, 91 points, poured a very light apricot pinkish color.
Lovely and profuse McIntosh apple aroma was nuanced with pome blossoms and juniper.
Light-bodied with bright acidity carried flavors reflective of the aroma with pear and Yellow dragon fruit.
Finished long on the trailing palate, soft ginger, citrus, and cilantro.
The 13.8% alcohol was well-balanced.
Paired nicely with my BLT and fruit salad.

Clos Du Val Proprietary 2015 White Wine

Clos Du Val Proprietary 2015 White Wine, $16.99-$45.99, 90 points, poured a pale gold color clearing before the glass wall.
Aromas of grapefruit, orange peel, and a musk-like perfume were excellent.
Light-plus body with fair-plus acidity carried good flavors of grapefruit, lime, and Lychee.
Finished on the fading palate with hints of ginger and a well-balanced 13.5% alcohol.
Varietals were 63% Gewürztraminer, 20% Chardonnay, and 17% Sauvignon Blanc.
700-780 cases made.
Paired nicely with my loaded hotdogs.

Housley's Century Oak Winery Inez's Vineyard Old Vine 2014 Zinfandel

Housley's Century Oak Winery Inez's Vineyard Old Vine 2014 Zinfandel, $11.89-$28.99, 90 points, poured a deep sienna color brightening toward the broad meniscus and thick legs.
Aromas of sun-warmed briar fruit, a waft of coffee, a bit of leather, and an oft-used expression which I obliquely describe as underbrush tumbled together nicely.
Near full-bodied with good acidity and a supportive underlayment of tannin helped to showoff loads of nuanced fruit without being a typical Lodi fruit-bomb.
Finished fine on restrained pepper spices, dried cooking herbs, and a robust 15% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my bean and beef tostada.

Luke Donald Collection (LDC) Napa Valley 2012 Red Wine

Luke Donald Collection (LDC) Napa Valley 2012 Red Wine, $14.99-$45.99, 88 points, poured core black grading a deep purple/red toward the broad clear wine ring and moderately heavy draping.
Profuse dusty black fruit aromas nuanced by floral and herbal notes with a hint of cocoa and loam were rich.
Full-bodied with good acidity and mellow tannins showed a plumy flavor profile with whispers of cola, truffle, and cherry fruit.
Finished long on the plum and truffle flavors, pepper spice, mint, and an appropriate 14.4% alcohol.
Varietals were 43% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot (Bordeaux-styled).

Chronic Cellars Paso Robles 'Dead Nuts' 2012 Red Wine

Chronic Cellars Paso Robles 'Dead Nuts' 2012 Red Wine, $20.39-$23.99, 91 points, poured core black grading an opaque purple/red toward the broad bleeding clear wine ring and long lethargic legs.
Aromas of earthy black fruit, sea breezes, nuanced floral notes, and fresh tanned leather were excellent.
Full-bodied with sufficient acids and tannins to support its stupendous weight.
A great gestalt of flavors reflective of the aromas trailed deep into the long finish marked by flavors of plum, fig, tobacco, and a grand 15% alcohol inspirited spiciness.
A very dense wine quite capable of pairing well with our Papa Gino's pepperoni pizza.
The very interesting varietals were 63% Zinfandel, 15% Tempranillo, 14% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Tannat.

Joseph Phelps Freestone Vineyards Sonoma Coast 2014 Pinot Noir

Joseph Phelps Freestone Vineyards Sonoma Coast 2014 Pinot Noir, $38.24-$49.99, 93 points, poured a deep garnet red grading brighter toward the broad clear meniscus and heavily draped bowl.
Aromatic black cherry with truffles and a nondescript perfume were excellent.
Medium-bodied with good acidity and a supportively mellow tannic underlayment revealed a mercurial and elegant earthy cherry fruit flavor profile with nuanced cola and truffle.
Finished very long on the trailing palate, sweet herbs, pepper spices, and a potent 14.1% alcohol.
There are a several wine varietals that I'll drink that are undistinguished, but Pinot Noir isn't one of them, and this Joseph Phelps Freestone Vineyards PN is certainly distinguished; this is one of those PN wines that keeps me coming back, even though most of the time I'm disappointed.
