Val delle Rose Poggio al Leone Riserva 2013 Morellino di Scansano (DOCG), $11.47-$26.99, 88 points, poured a deep ruby red trending almost blood red at the clear wine ring and glass bowl adorned with clear hanging sheets.
First whiff had a bit of the barnyard, but that transitioned to a nice perfumed rose-pedal, underbrush, and soft ripe black cherry.
Medium-bodied bone dry red wine with good acidity and firm grainy tannins carried an earthy flavor profile deep into the lively finish of pepper spices, mint, black tea, soft fennel notes, and a warm 14% alcohol.
Pair as you would a Chianti.
