Niner Twisted Spur Paso Robles 2009 Red Wine, $15.29-$37.99, 89 points, appeared opaque trending maroon at the broad clear rim with considerable draping.
Rich cedar, cloves, and blackberries on the nose were fragrant.
Near full-bodied with a lush texture, fair-plus acidity, softly supportive tannin, and round flavors of licorice, violets, plum, and blackberries were warm and inviting.
Finished fair on the trailing palate, easy spice notes, spearmint, and hints of the 14.8% alcohol.
Varietals were 44% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Franc, 23% Petite Sirah, 3% Carmenere.

Lima Loureiro D.O.C. 2013 Vinho Verde

Lima Loureiro D.O.C. 2013 Vinho Verde, $8.09-$10.99, 87 points, $8.09-$10.99, 87 points, poured a molten glossy gold color.
Fresh-cut grass and lime on the nose were good.
Off-dry, this nearly medium-bodied white wine from Portugal showed good acidity with flavors of green melon rind, kiwi, and lime, all of which went down tart and tasty.
Finished long on the trailing palate with a well integrated 11.5% alcohol.
Not having had but few Vinho Verde white wines, there is a red Vinho Verde as well (not found-yet), the QPR always seems good. Like, man, you can't go wrong trying these wine!

Adelsheim Ribbon Springs Vineyard 2013 Auxerrois

Adelsheim Ribbon Springs Vineyard 2013 Auxerrois, $17.99-$21.99, 89 points, was a very light brass color trending gray at the glass shallows.
The smells of floral tropical fruits were good.
Light-bodied with a medium body texture was marked by fair acidity and mysterious flavors of a new varietal (for me).
Not having tasted this wine before, my mind went into overdrive trying to make associations with other white wines I've tasted:
Chardonnay is too rich and too distinctive.
Sauvignon Blanc is typically more acidic and spicy.
Moscato was usually sweeter with diminutive alcohol levels.
Chenin Blanc is crisper and more citrusy.
Viognier displays a lusher more generous quality.
Riesling is usually far more acidic, mineral laced, and distinctively pome, though not always, often with petrol notes.
Semillon and Pinot Grigio both come closer (it's the nondescript flavor of neutrality), but differences in crispness (PG) floral dominance and creaminess (Semillon) yet differentiate them from this new contender.
Auxerrois is a quaffing white wine, though not without refinement. Subtle flavors of tropical fruit were nuanced, but the kicker is in the finish of lovely lime and honey notes with melon, hints of the 13.5% alcohol, and ginger deepening the well-spring of balanced refreshment.

Carol Shelton Wines 2013 Monga Zin Old Vine Zinfandel,

 

 

$17.99-$19.99, 89+ points, poured nearly black trending ruby to crushed blackberry purple/red with a broad clear rim.

Aromatic toasty blackberry and saltwater taffy were very good.

Medium-bodied with good acidity and finely layered tannin with wild berries and juniper berries which made for a clean distinctly Zinfandel experience.

Finished long on white pepper, cola notes, a bit astringent, some heat from the 14.9% alcohol and spearmint.

Ca' Momi Napa Valley 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

Ca' Momi Napa Valley 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, $15.29-$25.99, 89 points, appeared a deep purple/red with flashes of maroon and a broad clear rim-ring.
Swell smells of semi-sweet cherry, hints of violets, and warm earth were quite good.
A medium to medium-plus bodied red wine with good acidity, moderate tannin, and nuanced flavors of mint, licorice, chocolate, and toasty black fruits were tasty.
Finished well on the trailing palate, savory, easy spice, blackberry cordial and its 13.9% alcohol.

Desert Wind Washington State 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

Desert Wind Washington State 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, $15.29-$18.99, 90+ points, poured an opaque maroon and trended a crushed black currant toward the transparent rim and leggy glass wall.
Aromatic subtle/soft smells of blackberry, cedar, earth, and flowers were very pleasant.
The medium-plus body was unusually crisp and tasty with good acidity, layered fine tannins, and a well balanced flavor profile of mulberry, blueberry, tart pomegranate, cola, mint, and black tea.
Finished long on easy spice notes with some warmth from the 14.5% alcohol.
Desert Wind is a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon with a high QPR!

Buried Cane Columbia Valley 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

Buried Cane Columbia Valley 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, $10.79-$14.99, 87 points, appeared an opaque maroon trending purple red near the clear rim-ring with considerable draping.
Profuse blueberry with hints of cedar and a floral component on the nose were quite good.
Full-bodied with fair acidity and moderate silky tannins made for a lush mouth-feel.
Loads of blueberries, black currant, and blackberry cordial were accented with licorice, accelerating spice, and cola notes.
Finished long on that blackberry cordial (13.8% alcohol) and licorice, with a hint of spearmint.
Varietals were 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot.
Wow! What a contrast to the Marquis de Chasse Bordeaux.
