Nicolas Potel Grand Vin De Bourgogne 2020 Pouilly-Fuisse

Nicolas Potel Grand Vin De Bourgogne 2020 Pouilly-Fuisse, $26.39-$36.99, 91 points, was a medium amber color (not what I would expect in a young Chardonnay) with a gray penumbra.
The dominate minerality on the nose was nuanced with hints of cantaloupe, lemon zest, and white chocolate.
This Pouilly-Fuisse was light, crisp, tart, and refreshing with citrus, minerality, and a whisper of oak on the palate.
Finished mouth-puckering, a bit of sour pomelo, a hint of ginger, and a well-balanced 13% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my turkey club sandwich.

Charles Krug Carneros-Napa Valley 2021 Chardonnay

Charles Krug Carneros-Napa Valley 2021 Chardonnay, $17.59-$23.99, 88 points, was a medium brass color with a clear penumbra.
The floral aroma was nuanced with slightly sour orange peel and lime juice notes.
Not quite a medium-bodied white wine, dry with good acidity and flavors that mirrored the aromas.
Finished long with a sense of minerality, taste of ginger, and a big 14.3% alcohol.
Paired fine with my spinach pie.

Pradorey Adaro Ribera del Duero 2020 Tempranillo Red Wine

Pradorey Adaro Ribera del Duero 2020 Tempranillo Red Wine, $15.99-$32.99, 93 points, poured a rich and stunning ruby red with a blood red penumbra, bleeding meniscus, and dense stained legs.
The lovely aromas of cinnamon, cedar, and spiced cherry fruit were a bit smoky and herbal.
This Tempranillo was unusual for me, with a dry full body, firm grainy tannins, bright acidity, and rich herbal/spicy flavors nuanced with black cherry, it was more like a Left-Bank Cabernet Sauvignon.
Finished long on the trailing palate, a bit tart, showed hints of tobacco, iron, and cayenne pepper. Alcohol was 14.5% abv.
Paired perfectly with my spice-rubbed rib eye.
If you see this wine at this kind of price, you want a red wine for Mediterranean cuisine, and like a bit more tannin than Merlot or Malbec, GRAB it!

Domaine La Vauvise, Les Trois Terroirs, 2022 Sancerre

Domaine La Vauvise, Les Trois Terroirs, 2022 Sancerre, $18.99, 90 points, was a very light-yellow gold color with a gray penumbra.
Aromas were bright lemon zest, fresh-cut hay, and a hint of passion fruit.
This Sancerre was dry, light-bodied, showed good acidity, and delivered the aromas to the palate with good mineral and ginger notes.
Finished long on tart citrus, a hint of fennel, and a well-balanced 13% alcohol.
Paired fine with my oysters on a half shell and lemon spritz.

Vega Sindoa 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Spain)

Vega Sindoa 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Spain), $7.99-$17.99, 89 points, poured a deep pomegranate red with a broad clear wine ring and a necklace of stained legs.
Aromas were smoky and floral with hints of pine resin, chocolate, red raspberry, and cinnamon: quite deep and lovely.
Vega Sindoa was not full-bodied like a Napa Cab, but rich for an inexpensive Cabernet Sauvignon. Showed good acidity, a firm plank of tannin, flavors of savory, anise, red raspberry, blackberry cordial, and a hint of chocolate.
Finished long on iron and plum notes, licorice, and red pepper with a well-balanced 14% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my roast beef sub.
This a high QPR red wine, not a soft Merlot or Malbec, but not a tight Bordeaux either.

Caparzo Brunello DI Montalcino, "Why it's a Go To Winery"

Caparzo Brunello DI Montalcino, "Why it's a Go To Winery", is the first non-domestic winery I've labeled this way; my reasons are capricious, but sincere.
Beginning on May 29, 2011, when I had my first Caparzo Brunello DI Montalcino (vintage 2006) and continuing until February 28, 2023, when I had my last Caparzo Brunello, I have this winery to excellent in consistency, quality, and QPR.
Now I've found another reason to love Caparzo winery: Caparzo winery was the main setting for the lovey uplifting movie "Letters To Juliet".

Caparzo 2006 Brunello DI Montalcino $32.29-$37.99, 92 points
Caparzo 2007 Brunello DI Montalcino, $31.06-$37.99, 93 points
Caparzo 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, $55.99-$69.99, 94 points
Caparzo 2008 Brunello DI Montalcino, $29.06-$37.99, 93 points
Caparzo 2010 Brunello DI Montalcino, $32.29-$37.99, 92 points
Caparzo 2011 Brunello DI Montalcino, $32.29-$37.99, 92+ points
Caparzo 2012 Brunello DI Montalcino (DOCG), $32.29-$37.99, 92+ points
Caparzo 2013 Brunello DI Montalcino (DOCG), $29.74-$39.99, 92 points
Caparzo 2016 Brunello DI Montalcino (DOCG), $32.29-$39.99 (same price I paid eleven years ago), 92 points
Caparzo 2017 Brunello DI Montalcino (DOCG), $32.29-$39.99, 92+ points

Sotavento Rueda 2022 Sauvignon Blanc (Spain)

Sotavento Rueda 2022 Sauvignon Blanc (Spain), $9.59-$24.99, 90 points, was a light brass color and turning shades of gray midway towards the glass rim.
Aromas of fresh-cut hay, lemon oil, and a lovely floral note were pleasant.
This Spanish Sauvignon Blanc was light-bodied, showed good acidity, and delivered flavors consistent with the aromas plus hints of lime juice and ginger.
Finished long on the ginger notes, tart, and with a well-balanced 13% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with our Asian cuisine.
This just might be the first SB from Sain that I've found.

Columna Rias Baixas 2022 Albarino (Spain)

Columna Rias Baixas 2022 Albarino (Spain), $15.99-$21.99, 91 points, was a straw-yellow color with yellow gold highlights and a broad graying penumbra.
Aromas of lemon oil, Clemetine peel, and pine resin were lovely.
This Albarino was a dry light-bodied white wine showing bright acidity and a lively mouthfeel. Flavors complemented the aromas with a floral vibe and rich ginger notes.
Finished long, a bit tart and tangy with a well-balanced 12.5% alcohol.

Frida Kahlo, Maipo Valley, Chile, Single Vineyard 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon

Frida Kahlo, Maipo Valley, Chile, Single Vineyard 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, $11.89-$15.99, 90 points, poured core opaque grading to a pristine ruby red with a broad clear meniscus and light stained legs.
Aromas were smokey with blackberries, loam, a subtle but lovely rose pedal.
Near full-bodied with good acidity, a firm underlayment of tannin, and good straight forward flavors of blackberry, cigar, black pepper, and red pepper.
Finished long, showed a hint of citrus and minerality, and a well-balanced 13.5% alcohol.
Paired fine with my grass-fed rib eye.
It seems to me that this Cab was designed for all palates, not a robust Robert Parker Cab, but refined enough to even please him (I don't know if he has tried this).
Very high Quality/Price Ratio Cab.

Sometimes I'll look for a lower alcohol wine to have with my dinner

Sometimes I'll look for a lower alcohol wine to have with my dinner!
Do you ever go to the wine rack and think, "I'd like a red wine with dinner that won't put me to sleep?"
Often, I'll look at a number of wines and just choose the one with the least ABV wine.
