Mount Veeder Winery Napa Valley 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, $28.04-$32.99, 91 points, poured broadly with black and deep purple/red patches, a clear meniscus, and thick stained sheeting, and tearing precipitation.
Strong aromas of crème de cassis and sandalwood were pleasant.
Full-bodied with good acidity and developing firm drying tannins unfolded the aromas onto the palate with plum and cherry fruit.
Finished long on energizing pepper spices, lingering red fruit, and a congruous 14.5% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with Glendi's barbeque lamb.
Ben, thank you for the wine.

At 5 years old, this wine is probably just getting in its stride.
ReplyDeleteVG: I was a tad disappointed with the 2012, but this vintage has redeemed this Cab. to me.
DeleteVG: As for the MT. Vee. finding its feet, I just got a fair deal on the 2013 Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, but upon researching the wine's pedigree, most pros are recommending that it remained corked for at least 4 to 50 years; doubt I'll wait that long.
DeleteYea, I definitely wouldn't wait that long ;)
