Bodegas Mas Alta (Black Slate) Lavilella Alta Vi De La Vila D.O.O. Priorat 2013 Red Wine

Bodegas Mas Alta (Black Slate) Lavilella Alta Vi De La Vila D.O.O. Priorat 2013 Red Wine, $16.99-$21.99, 90 points, poured a lovely rose red, progressing to purple/red and terminating with a broad clear wine ring.
Aromatic blackberry jam, coffee, tobacco, and cedar notes were very good.
Near full-bodied with good acidity, early palate tame tannin, and rich flavors of plum, black currant, and hints of coffee.
Finished long on mint, cayenne, white pepper, savory, and a warm 14.5% alcohol.
Varietals were 60% Garnacha, 35% Carignan and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
I can't remember the last time I quoted what was on the back label of a bottle of wine, but for some reason I thought this was noteworthy: "One region, nine historic villages, each with its distinct character but all unmistakably Priorat. Sun scorched vines cling to breathtakingly steep hillsides with their roots deeply plunged in the llicorella soils of this pristine, ancient region." Just sounded poetic!

    1. VG, I'm glad you agree! :)
Spain is a mystery rapped in an enigma; so vast and convoluted, yet the adventure is so much fun and for so few dollars (most of the time).
