Frei Brothers Russian River Valley 2007 Syrah Reserve, $13.50-$18.00, 83 points, appeared core black trending a slightly cloudy ruby at the clear rim.
Toasty black fruit with just a hint of that cursed barnyard smell was just passable for me.
The smooth medium-plus body carried silk-like resolved tannin, fair acidity, and flavors of plum, black cherry, and mint.
Finished okay with a touch of the 14.1% alcohol and sparse black pepper.
