Ca' Rome Romano Marengo Maria di Brun DOCG 2008 Barbaresco

Ca' Rome Romano Marengo Maria di Brun DOCG 2008 Barbaresco, $59.39-$83.99, 92+ points, appeared core ruby trending brick red with copper tints near the clear rim.
Medium-bodied with borderline astringent acidity and 'tightly' wound tannin carried sparse fruit with only hints of black cherry and pomegranate, but eucalyptus, mint, and bourbon notes cleverly nuanced the flavor profile.
Finished long on the trailing palate, warmth from the 14% alcohol, and an accelerating spice.
Commentary: This is a refined wine and won't knock most people over with power or Cali-fruityness, but for sheer purpose, clean purity, and Italian-food friendliness, not to mention the table-setting gravitas, this is one to serve for special occasions, even though it's a bit pricy.
