Hourglass Estate Napa Valley 2015 Sauvignon Blanc

Hourglass Estate Napa Valley 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, $32.29-$37.99, 93 points, poured a light brass color with a faint green tint.
Aromatic fresh cut hay field with a slight whiff of mandarin orange and musk cologne were excellent.
The mouth-feel seemed a bit more than light-bodied, but the acidity was vibrant and cut cleanly through our Chinese cuisine.
Flavors of tropical and stone fruits, citrus, and melon rind were complex and superimposed on a stony background.
Finished long with a hint of wintergreen, the trailing palate, ginger, and a potent 14.2% alcohol.

  1. Is 2015 a good year for this one Dennis? I remember getting a tour and a little education one afternoon when you and I visited one of the newer and larger Licquer stores in New Hampshire, and I'm actually not sure of the certain Wine, although I think that it may have been a Zinfandel; that you mentioned that the earlier year for that certain Wine was much better than the bottle next to it that was two years older I believe.

    1. Ed: Indeed 2015 was a very good year for Cali Sauvignon Blanc (JMO).
Vintages result in a variable quality of wine.
I forget which Zinfandel you referred to, but most wine are being produced to drink young; many red wines drink best within five years, and most white wines need to be drunk upon release or up to three years.
Of course there are exceptions; most people think of Bordeaux, but consider the 1972 Clos Du Val Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that won eighth place at the 1973 Paris Wine Tasting, but that same wine 10 years later won First place, and 20 years after that, the same 1972 vintage won fifth place; that Cab was 31 years old and still great!
