Adelsheim Willamette Valley 2013 Pinot Gris

Adelsheim Willamette Valley 2013 Pinot Gris, $13.59-$17.99, 89 points, poured straw yellow.
Pinot Gris is typically a nondescript white wine, and that's exactly true of this one.
Aromatically light granny-smith apple and melon, had a light-plus body with fair acidity which carried subtle citrus, green apple, and watermelon flavors with a rather smooth textured mouth-feel.
Finished well on its 13.5% alcohol, the trailing palate, and just a touch of Tang and a whisper of pepper.
As I see it, this PG tastes very good, only it is varietally true (nondescript).
I paired the Adelsheim Willamette Valley 2013 Pinot Gris with a simple salad and fried scallops.

Renwood Amador 2011 Timberline Zinfandel

Renwood Amador 2011 Timberline Zinfandel, $21.99,$39.99, 90 points, appeared opaque maroon with a broad clear wine ring at the very heavily draped bowl.
A bright earthy red cherry aroma was good.
Medium to medium-plus body carried good acidity and an underlayment of mild tannin.
Oak, red cherry, blackberry and other black fruit notes with a hint of bourbon were petrified in a straight forward Zinfandel reminiscent of a good Sangiovese (I know: "He's nuts!").
Finished well on a sweet-spot 14.8% alcohol, just a hint of eucalyptus, and a touch of plum.

Dry Creek Winery Sonoma California

"Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for it is now that God favours what you do."
Ecclesiastes 9:7.

“Wine is sunlight, held together by water.”
 Galileo Galilei

Dry Creek Winery Sonoma California was for us four, just maybe the best overall quality of wines tasted on our tour of wine country, as few of those wineries visited may have been.
The picnic area was good, we visited much better, the hosts were friendly and helpful, but quite busy, the servings were more a catch as catch can, and in some sense more relaxed than the others. It was the wines themselves that sold all of us on Dry Creek Winery.

Here is a small sample of the Dry Creek wines we tasted:

Taylor's Vineyard 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Musqué Clone,
$25.00, 93+ points, was the best 2013 Sauvignon Blanc out of the fifty six Cali SBs I tasted. More a Sancerre with peripheral fruit, depth, and overall crisp refreshing complexity.

Dry Creek Valley 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, $18.00, 89+ points, was a good example of a Cali SB, fragrant, crisp, acidic, and refreshing.

The Dry Creek Mariner (2012), $45.00, 95 points,
was one of those red wine I've always wanted to taste, but until our visit wasn't able to. This Bordeaux styled red wine (56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 8% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc) was as good a red wine for $45.00 you're be likely to find anywhere. It was aromatic, unctuous on the palate, appropriately acidic with layers of smooth and firm tannins, and having a complexity of balanced flavors with a long cerebral finish.

 If you
are in California wine country and are short on time
and want to visit at least one archetypical winery,
 let me recommend this one!

Mollydooker McLaren Vale Australia, 2010 Enchanted Path Red Wine

opens this post cause when you have this wine and drink it too you just might have to lay down.

Mollydooker McLaren Vale Australia, 2010 Enchanted Path Red Wine, $67.99-$79.99, 91 points, poured black throughout with but a hint of deep purple/red near the thin clear wine ring.
Profuse aromas of coffee, roses, and blueberries were very good, but foreshadowed the "Bigness" of this massive wine including its massive 16% alcohol whose presence made itself known throughout the palate and into the long hot finish of cedar and spiciness with just a hint of mint.
Was it rich, luscious, unctuous, impenetrable, and enchanted? Well, sort of, but maybe just a bit over the top for me, maybe just a tad too syrupy for me, but the others loved it.
Flavors of kirsch, blueberry cordial, black plum, and oak, were supported by fair acidity and nicely layered tannin.
My spiced rib-eyed steak was sufficient for this big and bold red wine, but I doubt anything short of this type of cuisine, except pistachios of course, will do.
Varietals were 65% Shiraz and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Oh, no corkscrew necessary.

Pistachio Nuts, The Food That Pairs With All Wines

I eat pistachio nuts all the time, and I drink wine all the time;  it's no surprise that I pair the two, but what amazes me is just how well pistachios go with all (a little hyperbole) varietals of wine. When I find a varietal that doesn't pair with pistachios, I'll let you know!
If you have a similar food/wine pairing, please let me know!

Sartori Di Verona Estate Collection Della Valpolicella DOCG, 2010 Amarone

Sartori Di Verona Estate Collection Della Valpolicella DOCG, 2010 Amarone, $39.99-$41.99, 90+ points, poured a deep dark Maroon with a cloudy rim ring.
Smells of sea breezes, macaroons, roses, and raisins were very pleasant.
Full-bodied with a round luscious texture carried good acidity, easy, yet sufficiently supportive tannin.
Blackberry, boysenberry, and a dominant plum fruit were tart enough to spark the 15% alcohol into a rather interesting tipple.
Finished well on the trailing palate, raisins, and some heat.
Varietals were 50% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Paired perfectly with my spinach lasagna and sweet Italian sausage.
