Secoli 2012 Amarone Della Valpolicella (D.O.C.G.), average price $28, 91 points, poured deep purple/reds on the cusp of black with a bleeding almost white wine ring.
Smells of chalky blackberry liqueur with toasted raisins were pleasant.
The silky full-bodied, plumy, and raisin-y red wine delivered what Amarone is supposed to; it showed dense, meaty, concentrated, licorice-like qualities with round easy tannins and less noticeable acidity than say a Toscana red wine.
Finished very long on the trailing palate, fig, and a well balanced 14.5% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my Greek-styled meatballs with pasta and potatoes.
