Beran Sonoma County 2013 Zinfandel, $25.49-$29.99, 90 points, poured core black trending deep purple/red toward the broad transparent wine ring and heavily trapped glass wall.
Smells of vanilla, roses, sandalwood, black currant, and red raspberry were excellent.
Medium-plus bodied with good acidity and moderately supportive tannin managed well the flavors of red cherry cordial, intense clove notes, licorice, blueberry, and rum chocolate balls.
Finished long on the trailing palate, warm spices, and a remarkably well balanced 15.2% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my spiced-rubbed rare bone-in rib-eye Angus steak with a spinach feta cheese pie.
A label note: one of the ugliest labels I've tried to photograph, and I found that a brown paper-bag and a Pete's coffee pouch to be just about as 'good' looking, but keep in mind that "you can't judge a book by its cover."
