April 14 is Tannat Day!
Viñedo De Los Vientos 2013 Tannat (Uruguay), $13.99, 89 points, poured an impregnable black full body; only shallow glass area showed deep purple/reds with a crystal-clear wine ring, and moderately leggy bowl.
Shy aromas of herbs, coffee, and savory black fruit were excellent.
Fair-plus acidity and layered firm tannins supported rich flavors of ripe black fruit.
Finished long on graphite, ripe blackberry, plum, an enduring undercurrent of spice, and a well-balanced 13.5% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with our brick-oven pepperoni pizza.
