Mas Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles Priorat 2006 Red Wine

Mas Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles Priorat 2006 Red Wine, $74.99-$119.99, 95 points (48% Garnacha, 50% Cariñena and 2% Merlot), begins its therapeutic session with a glass-house filled with paintings of deep ruby and purple hues, legs long and sultry, rimmed with a silver lining.
Okay, I'll try and do away with metaphors, but keep in mind that such a wine as this should not be trivialized, because balance, even in a wine, makes a work of art, and this wine is so balanced as to be one of the best stand-alone wines I've yet tasted.
With a bouquet of fallen leaves, cinnamon, clove, cedar, earth, and mushrooms, add subtle hints of rose pedals and black and blue fruit, and this Priorat wine reminds me of just why I've loved them so much.
Juicy texture compliments the medium-plus body of good acidity and warm round tannin.
Flavors nuanced over some time are a list of the pleasantries of a seven-course-meal, with sweets, herbs, fruit, and meats, with a cherry-sherry sherbet dessert.
Okay, okay, I know, but what's a guy to do with a wine bigger than his vocabulary?
Finish!
Yes, the finish is long on the palate flavors, but snowballing with a gingery-pepper spice and a touch of bourbon-heat (15% alcohol) caps-off this red wine of near perfection; I'll just sit back on the couch with a round glass of this wine and let Igor Stravinsky's Pastorale begin the healing.
Oh, as a Christmas gift? I'll take a case.
Merry Christmas!

Bodega Teso La Monja Tinta DE Toro Victorino 2007 Tempranillo

Bodega Teso La Monja Tinta DE Toro Victorino 2007 Tempranillo, $50.99-$59.99, 93 points, is purple-red in color with burgundy tones and a broad clear rim.
The aroma reticently swirls sweet red cherry and cinnamon with a hint of alcohol (14.5%).
Very near full body presents good acidity with layers of pleasant tannin carrying a velvety matrix of black berries, red cherry, coffee, and licorice, with its amazing array of spice which eXistenZ, by design I'm sure, crazily into the the long finish.

I'll bet not many of you have heard Christmas music played like this! Andres Segovia

Bodega Numanthia Terms 2008 Tinta de Toro

Bodega Numanthia Terms Tinta de Toro 2008 Tempranillo, $21.99, 91 points, has a deep red to purple color, and a broad transparent rim.
Another aromatic bouquet of a wine from Spain, with bountiful earth tones, flowers, blackberries, and a touch of sweet red cherry and wax.
Medium-plus body rips with heat (14.5% alcohol), acidity, and moderate tannin, rather than flows as did the smoothly lithe Muga Rioja, Numanthia Terms Tinta de Toro 2008 Tempranillo tears through your palate with lots of spice and delicious blackberry, red cherry, and hints of licorice, violets, chocolate, and coffee, all of which trail nicely into the finish.
Buying wines on sale is the norm for me, but since I had a hard time finding a Bodega Numanthia wine, and found this one with the real possibility that it would no longer be available when a sale finally arrived, I decided to pay the full price; if I see this for $18.65, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

Christmas music for the restless! Marcos Witt- Santa La Noche

Spanish Red Wines not associated with a listed region

Spanish Wines, (Red wines) affordable, mysterious, having a place to their type and taste (Terroir), and often with transcendent richness.
Not being an authority doesn't mean I haven't an opinion, and New Hampshire has a somewhat limited number of Spanish wines, so tasting them and commenting on them should be easy, right? Not so fast; wine is a serious "business"; however we wine lovers, or those interested in a special gift at this time of the year, we're all about the fun, value, and the utility of wine. So as I taste them, I note them, and if my list (a work in progress, mostly to assist Smart phone users) is of any help to my New Hampshire family and friends, then that's great.
More than A Redundant List Of Spanish Wine Regions to demonstrate just how difficult it can be to acquire a thorough knowledge of Spain's vast wine regions.
The list:

Spanish Calatayud (Aragon) Red Wines
Spanish Campo de Borja (Aragon) Red Wines
Spanish Jumilla Red Wines
Spanish La Mancha Red Wines
Spanish Montsant Red Wines
Spanish Navarra Red Wines
Spanish Priorat Red Wines
Spanish Ribera del Duero Red Wines
Spanish Rioja Red Wines
Spanish Toro Red Wines
Spanish Vino De La Tierra De Castilla Red Wines
Spanish Yecla Red Wines

Muga Rioja Reserva 2008 Tempranillo

Muga Rioja Reserva Unfiltered 2008 Tempranillo, $17.84-$27.99, 92 points, had a cloudy almost Shiraz purple color with a thin clear rim.
The aroma abounded with earth, sweet red cherry, and a floral component all of which carried over to the palate on a medium-plus body of smooth acidity and grainy tannin that complimented this wine; the powerful floral aroma translated onto the palate, but was low-keyed enough to allow the cherry flavor enough room to balance the overall profile.
Finished silky with just enough spice, length, and a hint of licorice, to seal the deal on this very nice wine.

Pear Valley Paso Robles 2007 Syrah

Pear Valley Paso Robles 2007 Syrah, $12.99-$24.99, 86 points, has a somewhat cloudy rosewood color.
Aromatically vegetative, this is not so pleasant a presentation.
Near full bodied, Pear Valley Paso Robles 2007 Syrah rebounds with a smooth-round mouth, having fair acidity and mild tannin.
Plum and licorice dominate the palate, culminating in a fair and spicy finish.
Drink upon opening!

Château Sérilhan, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe 2009 Bordeaux

Château Sérilhan, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe 2009 Bordeaux, $23.79-$27.99, 92 points, needs a warning sticker that says: Danger Acid-Tannin. Château Sérilhan begins round and rich on a medium-plus body, but quickly wakens you with striking acidity and vibrantly strident tannin, though through the torrent there's flavor paradise, a sunshine of fruit (juicy blackberry and tart pomegranate), hints of coffee and black licorice, not to mention the subtleties left behind in the storm.
Château Sérilhan 2009 Bordeaux is not for the faint of heart, but for those who can taste the future, who can see the dawn of this beautiful red wine, a glimpse of what is and what's to come will be reward enough.
The color: A slightly cloudy violet-red.
The aroma: Robust, rich, sweet, meaty, chocolaty, and spicy.
Finishing warm on a very long tongue tingling spice with just the faintest hint of alcohol (13.5%) seals the deal on a great value of a Bordeaux.
Varietals are 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc.
