Tarima Hill D.O. Alicante 2015 Monastrell, $11.89-$16.99, 89 points, poured black to opaque ruby to Shiraz purple/red with a clear wine ring and dense dripping stained drapes.
No swishing and swirling required to bring out the rich aromas of toast, blackberry liqueur, blueberry syrup, and lingonberry jam.
The full-bodied Monastrell with good acidity and almost overwhelming wooly tannins could hardly release the bounty of fruit hiding within, but flavors of blueberry, black fruit, tar, and savory did peep through.
Finished long on the same palate pattern with a tad of black pepper and an amazingly well balanced 15% alcohol.
