November Eleven (Veterans' Day)
Purple Heart Napa Valley 2013 Bordeaux-styled Red Wine, $17.99-$19.99, 88 points, poured deep, almost opaque maroon grading purple/red toward the broad clear wine ring and glass bowl with substantial sheeting.
The aromas were slightly unripe black currant, blueberry, and savory.
Medium-plus body carried good acidity and moderately strident tannins (a tad astringent), with flavors that reflected the aromas with black cherry and cola notes.
Finished fair on hints of tobacco, spicy red pepper, and a sweet-spot 14.2% alcohol.
Varietals were Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Paired perfectly with my spiced American lamb rib-chops.
