Castello Banfi Summus 2007 Red Wine (IGT) Revisited

Castello Banfi Summus 2007 Red Wine (IGT) Revisited, $47.59-$59.99, 90 points, poured an opaque ruby red grading brighter towards the clear wine ring and fat legs.
First whiff was a bit funky but developing toasty black fruit with hints of cedar box, cocoa powder, and dusty citrus notes were okay.
This seventeen-year-old IGT showed full-bodied, still softly but supportively tannic with fair to good acidity, sleek round mouthfeel, and complex flavors with rising stars of java and red pepper.
Finished long on the trailing palate, iron notes, anise, and that big 14.5% alcohol.
Paired fine with my spice-rubbed strip steak.
Current price is $79.99.

Château Moulin De Bernat 2019 Bordeaux Red Wine

Château Moulin De Bernat 2019 Bordeaux Red Wine, $19.99-$23.99, 92 points, poured an unfiltered rosewood red with a broad clear meniscus and fat legs.
Aromas of fig pastry, plums, and coffee notes were pleasant.
This 2019 Bordeaux red wine was near full-bodied, showed good acidity, and if ever I wanted to use the phrase "sweet tannins", this would be it. Flavors righteously reflected the aromas with hints of licorice and ended on INTENSE spiciness (maybe too much for some).
Finished on that spiciness with a well-balanced 14% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my spice-rubbed, rare grassfed rib eye.
Excellent Q/P/R (Quality/Price/ Ratio) Bordeaux if you like spice, plums, and firm tannins.

Risata D'Asti 2023 Moscato

Risata D'Asti 2023 Moscato, $11.53, 86 points, was a light yellow/gold color with a lime green sheen, thin clear wine ring, and subtle light effervescence.
Aromas of melon rind and white chocolate were soft to "dumb".
Though it just maybe the residual sugar that give these sweet Moscato wines their medium body, this was true to that weight. Showed good flavors of rock candy, a hint of ripe pummelo, and a refreshing minerality.
Finished long on the trailing palate and a typical 5.5% alcohol.
Was an excellent apéritif and paired fine with my spicy chicken wings.

RJ Vinedos Reunión Mendoza 2023 Malbec

RJ Vinedos Reunión Mendoza 2023 Malbec, $17.09-$18.99, 90 points, poured a deep unfiltered cranberry red with a broad clear meniscus and fat legs.
Aromas were earthy, fruity, and floral: very nice!
Just another full-bodied Mendoza Malbec, but here we see good acidity, and the flavors were reflective of the aromas nuanced with cayenne, cinnamon, and red cherry: very good.
Finished long and juicy with a well-balanced 13.5% alcohol.
Paired fine with my prosaic cheeseburger.

Colome' Estate Valla Calchaqui, Salta, Argentina, High Altitude 2023 Torrontés

Colome' Estate Valla Calchaqui, Salta, Argentina, High Altitude 2023 Torrontés, $12.69-$14.99, 89 points, was a light yellow/gold color with a thin clear meniscus.
Aromas of lemon juice dominated the grassy notes and a subtle Clemetine peel.
This Torrontés white wine was light to medium-bodied with good acidity and good flavors reflective of the aromas with excellent ginger notes late palate and finish.
The finish was fair on the that ginger, a tad tart, continued with lemongrass, and a well-balanced 13% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my battered baked haddock.
This was an excellent Q/P/R wine, and a recommended buy, but keep in mind this is a white wine best had young, which I consider to be one to three years.

Bella Bolle 2020 Moscato D'Asti DOCG, $5.99-$8.99, 86 points, was a light yellow/gold color with a thin clear meniscus and no fizz.
Aromas were near mute but subtle orange peel and lemon zest were pleasant.
This Moscato was medium-bodied, showed fair acidity and sweet (not cloying) flavors of rock candy, white chocolate, and hints of citrus.
Finished long on the trailing palate, white grape, and a sweet spot 5.5% alcohol.
Paired well with my spicy Mexican cuisine.

Covalli 2019 Barbaresco DOCG

Covalli 2019 Barbaresco DOCG, $21.14-$29.99, 93 points, poured a light brandy red with thin hanging-lightly stained legs, and a broad clear meniscus.
Aromas of pine resin, black tea, and red raspberry Kool-Aid were pleasant.
I find Barbaresco red wines to be generally medium-bodied with bright acidity, and this Covalli was no different; showed bone-dry with puckering grainy tannins, great spiciness, and good flavors of black tea, sweet cooking herbs, and hints of strawberry.
Finished very long on the trailing palate, a hint of eucalyptus, rose pedal, iron, red raspberry, and a well-balanced 14% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my veggie-mozzarella flatbread pizza.

Aromas of perfumed black fruit with notes of mulberry and a hint of espresso were straightforward and a bit bland.

Château Jas de Bressy 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge

Château Jas de Bressy 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, $38.39-$47.99, 94 points, poured a bright ruby red with flashes of amber towards the clear meniscus with massive fat-stained legs.
The most beautiful bouquet I've experienced in a red wine that recently comes to mind: showed a perfumed milk chocolate, black fruit, and hints of cinnamon, clove, cedar, and dried sweet cooking herbs.
Château Jas de Bressy acts upon a bone-dry full body with good acidity, fine grainy tannins, earthy and fruity flavors accented with an intense alcohol (15%) infused spiciness.
Finished long on mint, anise, plums, and the trailing palate.
Paired perfectly with my spice-rubbed rare rib eye.

Poggio Lontano 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino

Poggio Lontano 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino, $21.99, 88 points, poured a bright ruby red with orange highlights, a broad clear meniscus, and thin copious legs.
Aromas were moderately "dumb", but soft notes of red raspberry, mushrooms, and rose pedal were pleasant.
This was a dry near full-bodied Brunello delivering thick cherry fruit flavors with notes of black tea, citrus, and plums.
Tannins were upfront supportive without being astringent, acidity was good, and alcohol (14%) was balanced.
This Trader Joes Brunello finished a bit tart, astringent, and flavor thin; it's difficult to find such a red wine for this price though.
Paired fine with my veggie pizza.

Shannon Ridge High Elevation Collection Lake County California 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, $15.99-19.99, 88 points, poured a deep rosewood red with a broad clear meniscus and sticky stained legs.
Aromas were earthy, a bit funky, licoricey, and softly floral with hints of stewed plums.
Shannon Ridge gives a balanced red table wine for a reasonable price, and this one is no different: showed a faithful rendition of the aromas onto the palate with good accents of red pepper, soft supportive tannins, and fair acidity.
Finished long on the trailing palate with emphasis on plums, red pepper, a hint of mint, and a well-balanced 13.9% alcohol.
Paired fine with my marinara cheddar burger.

Tangley Oaks Mendocino County Lot 12 2019 Chardonnay

Tangley Oaks Mendocino County Lot 12 2019 Chardonnay, $9.99-$19.99, 86 points. was a medium straw-yellow color with a broad clear penumbra.
Smells of sour melon, nutmeg, and orange zest were okay.
This California Chardonnay was medium to full-bodied, round but steely, showed fair acidity and good short-lived flavors of cantaloupe, citrus notes, and an impressive lingering ginger.
Finished fair mostly on the ginger and a big 14.5% alcohol.
Paired fine with my Asian cuisine.
Recommend as a table wine but not as an aperitif.
