Tenute Folonari Cabreo Il Borgo 2009 Toscana IGT (Red Wine)

Tenute Folonari Cabreo Il Borgo 2009 Toscana IGT (Red Wine), $34.42-$44.99, 92 points, is an unfiltered red wine of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and appears as an opaque Bordeaux black currant and a transparent rim.
Black currant is prominent in an otherwise subtle aroma that includes hints of clove and cedar, earth and licorice with a touch of alcohol (15,5% alcohol). The palate is aroma faithful with hints of blackberry and coffee,
This IGT finishes warm and spicy.
Paired perfectly with lasagna and garlic bread.

  1. This is so odd. I don't know what happened here as this wine (name, label and all) used to be made/owned by Ruffino. Back then was a killer value. I saw the Folonari version and tried it and found it very oaky. Glad they seem to be doing a good job with it now.

    1. JOHN, SADLY, this is the only vintage I've had the opportunity to taste, but in doing some research on other vintages (for what that's worth), I see that WS (Stingy with scoring Italian wines as a whole-I believe) scored the 2007 94 points, and the 2008 93 points; for what it's worth!
