Altovinum Evodia, Calatayud, Spain, 2007 Old Vine Garnacha

Altovinum Evodia, Calatayud, Spain, 2007 Old Vine Garnacha, $6.99-$11.99, 90 points, appears almost burgundy red with a touch of pomegranate and a broad clear rim. Cedar dominates the aroma, but not far behind are plum, coffee and cinnamon notes.
The medium-plus body carries good acidity and mild-plus tannin along with the bright flavors of tangy-tart red cherry and plum which transitioned well through the finish of escalating coffee and spice notes.
QPR is extremely high, and should definitely be on my list of best value red wines!

  1. Most excellent! Glad to read the wine has some aging potential. Although I suspect I would have great difficulty keeping my hands off of it for 6 or 7 years!

    1. Bill, I've noticed that the ABV changes from year to year, but I guess that is to be expected; this one is 14.5%, the 2008 is 14%, while the remainder are 15%, which would account for the additional "edgy" I picked-up on, with the 2011, but to say I tasted the alcohol in the wine would not be correct; just well balanced for this level of a wine!
      Thanks for the follow-up,
      Dennis
