Hartford Russian River Valley Old Vine 2012 Zinfandel, $28.79-$31.99, 90 points, was a bright ruby trending dark cranberry red with a broad clear rim ring.
The aromas were earthy grape notes with a briny fresh linen character.
Full-bodied with good acidity and unusually strident tannin, even a bit astringent, were characteristically Zinfandel-specific food friendly (e.g. peperoni pizza).
Flavors of plum, mulberry, and blackberry cordial made for a fruit-forward, but not an over-the-top red wine.
Finished well on the trailing palate, a touch of wintergreen, and some heat from the 15% alcohol.
