Smoking Loon El Carancho 2013 Malbec (Chile), $6.99-$12.99, 86 points, poured an opaque purple/red with a nice clear wine ring and considerable draping.
Smells of mulberry, black pepper, and a hint of gardenia were only okay for me.
Medium-bodied with fair-plus acidity and a more pronounced tannic impression than recently tasted Malbecs managed a red table wine rendition of the varietal; flavors of licorice, black fruit, and a hint of tobacco were okay.
Finished fair on an easy 13.5% alcohol and spice.
Paired fine with my pulled-pork, diced tomatoes, and melted Monterey Jack wraps.

Loved reading about all these Malbecs. Had no idea Smoking Loon had a presence in Chile. And what a great price.
ReplyDeleteVG: Great price for sure!
