John Duval Wines "Entity" Barossa Valley (Australia) 2010 Shiraz, $21.99-$39.99, 92 points, poured core black trending purple red toward the broad clear rim and leggy glass wall.
Aromatic toasty black fruit with flowers were bold, but hints of pomegranate and vanilla notes were subtle and complementary.
Full-bodied with good acidity, firm layered tannin, bombastic flavors of blackberries, sassafras, flowers, oak, and truffle were balanced.
Finished quite long on an accelerating spice, rosemary, anise, and a warm 14.5% alcohol.

Beringer Founders' Estate 2013 Sauvignon Blanc

Beringer Founders' Estate 2013 Sauvignon Blanc, $7.99-$10.99, 88 points, appeared a bright golden color and trending a bit gray at the glass shallows.
Aromatically a bit weak, but fair sweet apple and cantaloupe were okay.
Nearly medium bodied with fair acidity managed the smoothest textured Sauvignon Blanc I've ever had.
The flavors of apple, lemon, and honeydew melon were very good and balanced.
Finished well on the 13.5% alcohol, a hint of ginger, a faint grassy note, and a twist of lime.
These three 2013 Sauvignon Blanc wines pictured below will most likely conclude my great adventure into Cali 2013 Sauvignon Blanc (One more just might be in the works) white wines. And for the wine lover, it was a great adventure; to have tasted thirty five or so of the same varietal, from the same region and vintage with multiple food pairings made for a familiarization that is uncommon in a region that doesn't grow Sauvignon Blanc grapes (at least to my knowledge).
I truly fell in love with this varietal.

Marchesi de Frescobaldi Luce Della Vite Lucente 2011 IGT Toscana Red Wine,
$23.19-$28.99, 91 points, was core-black trending deep opaque ruby toward the clear rim at the glass wall of considerable sheeting.
The beautiful earthy bouquet redolent with mushrooms, cedar, tobacco, and floral notes made for a massive change of pace from my Holiday fare.
Nearly full-bodied with excellent acidity and supportive tannin carried rich flavors of blackberries, black cherry, plum, and cola notes.
Finished strong on the trailing palate, wood notes, paprika, and warmth from the 14.5% alcohol.
Varietals were 75% Sangiovese and 25% Merlot.

Moon Mountain Vineyard Sonoma County 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

Moon Mountain Vineyard Sonoma County 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, $9.99-$14.99, 89 points, poured almost entirely black except purple near the thin transparent rim; this Cab had a considerable amount of suspended material, which suggested the need for decanting.
Earthy smells with some blackberry and cedar notes were okay.
The nearly full body carried fair acidity, mostly resolved mid-palate tannin, and remarkably good flavors of tobacco, cedar, black currant, boysenberry, and mulberry.
Finished fair on residual tannin, easy spice, savory and tobacco notes with a well integrated 13.9% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with a rare spiced porterhouse.
This wine was bought four years ago and left ignominiously forgotten in the cellar; it was a diamond in the ruff.

Chateau Montelena Napa Valley 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon

Chateau Montelena Napa Valley 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, $52.99 (gift) but found for $44.99, 90 points, appeared a rainbow of reds with a flash of orange toward the glass shallows and broad clear rim.
Smells of bell pepper and black currant were dominant.
This nearly full-bodied Cab revealed its youth right away, and I wished I could have waited at least five years before tasting, but alas it is what it is: appropriately acidic, firm enduring tannin (a bit astringent), moderately smooth texture, and bright black fruit flavors with hints of red raspberry, cola, and tobacco.
Finished okay on the trailing palate, accelerating spice, tart pomegranate, and a well integrated 13.4% alcohol.
Purchased at Fresh Market in Bedford.

Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut Sparking White Wine, $16.79-$24.99, 90 points, poured a bright gold color with a good head of persistent bubbles.
Lovely aromas of sweet apple, and a hint of tangerine impressed.
Light bodied with excellent acidity, fine bubbly mouth exciting sensations, and good flavors of pome with a balanced citrus support made this an exceptional libation.
Finished long on the trailing palate, watermelon rind, a hint of ginger, and a slightly noticeable 12% alcohol.
