Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Olivet Lane 2010 Chardonnay, $67.99-$79.99, 93+ points,
began in the glass as a brilliant burnished brass color.
Profuse melon on the nose, highlighted by honey and floral notes, was grand.
A substantial medium body ("brevity is the soul of wit" would be a surreal analogy) carried fair acidity with an unusually easy-drinking, crisp, and clean Chardonnay with a rich minerality, melon, gentle vanilla, and tart grapefruit flavors.
Finished long on a creamy tangerine, white pepper and ginger with a well integrated 14.3% alcohol.
Is this an expensive Chardonnay (I saw this on sale at the NHLS #33 for about $58.00)? Yes, but it is among a rarified group of the best California Chardonnay wines I've tasted which are available in New Hampshire.
