Mongeard-Mugneret Bourgogne Vosne-Romanée 2009 Pinot Noir

Mongeard-Mugneret Bourgogne Vosne-Romanée 2009 Pinot Noir, $13.49-$20.99, 85 points, appeared quintessential pomegranate red with a broad clear rim.
An earthy almost horse-like smell was moderated with the aroma of black cherry.
Though the body was medium and had high acidity, up-front and middle palate astringency made for a somewhat hostile mouth-feel even though the tannin was mild; too tart cranberry and pomegranate red fruit flavors were just not enough to over-come this astringency, nor diminish that horse smell that carried over into the finish which was marked by a trailing palate and just hint of the 12.5% alcohol.
