Zorvino Vineyards Non-Vintage Syrah, a gift from a friend (approx. $13.99), 84 points, was a bright ruby with a pink hue trending pomegranate red with a clear rim.
The aroma was quite quiet with just a hint of blueberry, barnyard, and lilac.
Just over the medium body threshold, Zorvino's Syrah isn't grape-typical, but tastes surprisingly good; managed fair acidity with mild-plus tannin and was an easy-drinking quaffer with a red and black fruitiness.
Finished slightly thin with a trailing palate, black pepper, plum, and just a hint of the well integrated 13.8% alcohol.
If buying locally is important to you, this red-wine meets my red table wine criteria. Considering I just tasted the Robert Mondavi 2011 Merlot Private Selection ($8-$11), and scored it 84 points as well, I'd say Zorvino's efforts just may pay-off.
Cheers!
