Easton Fiddletown Rinaldi Vineyard Old Vine 2009 Zinfandel, $22.39-$27.99, 92+ points, appeared beet red having some bricking toward the clear rim at the leggy glass wall.
With some air the developing toasty cherry aroma was wonderful, and accents of clove added to its complexity.
The supple near full-body carried good acidity and mellowing, yet still supportive tannin.
Flavors of black cherry, blackberry, coffee, and cola were nuanced and delicious.
Finished long and exceptional on the trailing palate, bourbon notes, spice, a well integrated 14.5% alcohol, and a still noticeable tannin.
This was a subtle refined Zinfandel, more like a Pinot Noir than a typical Cali Zinfandel, but considerably more spicy.
