Truchard Carneros Napa Valley 2011 Zinfandel, $11.99-$27.99, 91 points, poured a deep ruby trending rosewood red toward the broad clear rim at the leggy glass wall.
Aromatic coffee, chocolate, smoked wood, and blackberry liqueur were excellent.
Near full-bodied with good acidity, soft tannin, and flavors matching the aromas were delightful and a major step-up from the 2010 vintage.
Finished long on the trailing palate with notes of pomegranate, black licorice, damson plum, a well integrated 14.2% alcohol, and a faint hint of orange peel.
This was a power-buy wine at the NHLS, but add the current promotional and you've got a tremendous red wine and a tremendous value.
