Castello di Bossi 2012 Chianti Classico (DOCG), $13.59-$21.99, 87+ points, poured a deep ruby concluding with some bricking at the clear wine ring.
The nose was only okay, marked by rather quiet prune, black cherry, and clove notes.
Medium-bodied with astringent tannins and mouth-watering acidity which managed dominant tart flavors of black cherry and pomegranate.
Finished long on the trailing palate with hints of mint, white pepper, and a significant 14% alcohol.
Paired okay with my spiced-rubbed strip steak.

2012 was really not a great year in Chianti Classico. The 2011's and 2013's should be much nicer. Many estates in 2012 did not bottle a Riserva or Gran Selezione as the case may be. That said, this producer has been one of my favorites in recent years. I buy this Chianti almost without thinking about it. I suppose "87" is where I'd imagine this wine given the vintage. Other years will be better.
ReplyDeleteJohn, for less than $15 what more can one expect!
DeleteThx for the 2012 heads-up!
