October is Merlot Month!
Coppola Director's Sonoma 2007 Merlot,
$17.99-$24.99, 84 points, appeared a deep purple/red at the core trending blood red toward the thin transparent wine ring.
Early smells were hints of juniper, sour plum, and the faintest Necco Wafer , but a shy floral note showed late.
Medium-plus body, good acidity, and mellow tannin carried acceptable flavors reflective of the aromas, though the plum was not sour.
Finished oaky with good cayenne pepper, and a polished 13.5% alcohol.
