Marchesi de Frescobaldi Castiglioni, 2014 Chianti (DOCG), $12.99-$15.99, 88 points, poured an unusually deep Burgundy red color with an obligatory wine ring and considerable draping.
Soft floral aroma was perfectly balanced with shy black cherry and teased wild red raspberry.
Medium-bodied with bright acidity and a moderate layer of tannins carried a nice balance of red raspberry and blueberry flavors accented by oak and truffle notes.
Finished quite well on red pepper spice and a spot-on 13% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my spaghetti in a rich Italian Marinara sauce.

If it pairs well with red sauce it's a winner in my estimation.
ReplyDeleteVG: Sangiovese hallmark?
DeleteThe other, usual suspects too, Nebbiolo etc.
