Bodegas Lan Gran Reserva 2007 Rioja Red Wine, $23.79-$27.99, 90 points, poured ruby to red garnet with a clear wine rim and a glass bowl of copious tears.
The remarkable aromas of cedar, mulling spices, flowers, mushrooms, and subtle red fruits were just about as good as it gets.
Full-bodied with good acidity and mellow tannins managed to deliver a fair representation of the nose onto the palate plus hints of plum.
Finished on the fading palate, coffee, sweet tobacco, iron, an easy spiciness, hints of pomegranate, and a well-balanced 14% alcohol.
Varietals were 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo.
