Villa Antinori 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva (DOCG), $22.16-$32.99, 92 points, was a deep purple/red with a lipstick red penumbra, broad clear meniscus, and stained glass sheeting.
Aromas of underbrush, red raspberry, black tea, and hints of cinnamon, vanilla, and dried herbs were outstanding.
The medium-plus body showed bright acidity, fine grainy tannins, flavors reflective of the aromas, and a very long residual finish accentuated by a 14% alcohol infused spiciness, mint, and citrus.
Paired perfectly with my meatball/provolone sub.
If you are having Italian cuisine and willing to spend up to twenty dollars for a good Chianti, give this one a try for a few more lire (dollars). And if you are having guests, just look at that table-setting gravitas!
