Ruffino Riserva Ducale Oro 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione (DOCG), $34.99-$39.99, 92 points, poured a medium cranberry red color with a penumbra tinged with orange, a broad clear meniscus, and copious stained legs.
Aromas of rose pedal, black tea, and a hint of shoe polish were interesting.
This Gran Selezione (select) Sangiovese red wine was medium-bodied, bone dry with good acidity, and showed masked red fruit flavors nuanced with tea, mint, and red pepper.
Finished long on the fading palate, a bit tart, an unfolding hint of iron, and a rather intense 14.5% alcohol.
Paired fine with our pepperoni pizza.
