A To Z 2010 Pinot Gris

A to Z 2010 Oregon Pinot Gris, $9.34-$14.49, 91 points, is near clear with lemon/lime hues, and has this beautiful aroma of orange blossoms and light melon.
The flavor (cold) is crisp and tart citrus, but as it warms the lush textured white wine begins a metamorphosis into a light delicious orange sherbet. The acidity is fair, but this wine is more near-dry and without anything being near cloying.
Ben and I were sipping on this Pinot Gris when my son stopped over and proceeded to down-it with obvious pleasure. Now, I know the 91 point score is high, and the complexity isn't, but the flavor says "so what!" So do I! If you're tired of Sauvignon Blancs, give this a try; I'll bet "Chinese" food will be wonderful with this.

  1. Dennis,

I really enjoyed the J Pinot Gris that you recommended a month or so ago--so much in so that I killed the whole bottle during last Sunday evening's cookout. Looking forward to finding/trying this one. I'm going to a big Washington/Oregon/Colorado wine tasting on Tuesday--hoping that I come across it there.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    1. Nick, pretty close in quality, but the A-Z price-point was better, and if you are like me, cost plays a major roll; I think that's why I can get quite disappointed when a wine doesn't live-up to the hype.
Have you ever tasted a not-so-good wine and read the glowing descriptors on the back label, and wondered if they were talking about the same wine?

  2. Dennis,

Ah yes, "label failure" seems to be much more common than it should be. I suppose that they have to write something to entice buyers, but yes, sometimes it's a bit misleading when the descriptors aren't even close.
