Château Tour Maillet Pomerol 2009 Grand Vin De Bordeaux

Château Tour Maillet Pomerol 2009 Grand Vin De Bordeaux, $38.24-$44.99, 91 points, immediately captivates with a diamond-clear purple red color, and a broad clear rim.
Diversity in fragrance is not a hallmark of this wine, but breaching the boring barrier is done with blackberry, dry coca, and a hint of alcohol (15%).
Bound by not only high alcohol, but intense acidity and layers of lasting tannin, this medium-plus bodied red wine promises a future, but right now is a bit tough, though delicious.
The dark fruit tends to get lost, but non-the-less is represented behind spice and heat all the way to the finish, one which is long on eucalyptus.

  1. Just a note on this wine: my son loves wines with a bite to them, and I like more subtle wines with complex flavors, but just because this wine isn't so much my style shouldn't cause my predisposition to disparage it. 91 points is a fair score for this wine, and though I've seen many 87 points for this wine, I'd say they missed something here!
