Hahn Central Coast 2009 GSM

Hahn Central Coast 2009 (GSM), $12.99-$19.99, 90 points, appeals to one's senses straight from the get-go with colors of bright purple, red, and flashes of orange.
Continuing this beguilement, an earthy and floral nose with hints of leather and sweet red cherry beckon you closer.
However, the proof is in the pudding, and this smooth medium bodied treat, filled with balanced acidity and tannin is not shorting anyone, but with flavors of tart lingonberry and sweet red cherry, trailing deep into a long finish with subtle hints of spice and a warm touch (14.3% alcohol), make for a rewarding accompaniment to almost any dinner-fare, or just to sip by the fireplace.

  1. Never had a lingonberry, maybe I should try this wine then.
Wonder if it goes with chicken :)

    1. V-girl, the first time I noted the lingonberry flavor was in my review in April of the Ciacci Piccolomini d' ARAGONA Brunello di Montalcino, and I just noticed that wine (different vintage 2007) was in WS's top 10 best wines (#9) of the the past year. If you get a chance to try this Brunello, let me know what you think.
I'm waiting to see the 2007 or the 2006.

    1. http://nhwineman.blogspot.com/search?q=Jams, here you will find a jar of lingonberry jam hidden behind the black currant and The orchard's finest in the front right side of the photo. Lingonberry is a very common red berry in the Northeastern part of Europe, tasting tart to sour and slightly sweet.
Pinning one flavor or another to wine is always interesting, but because I've gotten so many hits from Sweden (>3000), I like to identify this flavor which is indigenous there. Either way, this Hahn is a "red fruit" GSM in flavor to me, but its delicious no matter how you describe it.

  3. Just a note on this wine: on the second day this wine turned heavily vegetative; so, I recommend when you open it, you drink it.
