Joseph Phelps Napa Valley 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, $50.99-$59.99, 92 points, poured core black transitioning deep ruby and finally crushed black currant purple/red at the broad clear rim and leggy glass wall.
The aroma was dominated by black currant, black cherry, cedar, leather, and a hint of violets.
A silky full body with fair acidity and robust, but manageable tannin, carried a quintessentially flavored, textual, and higher-end ($30-$70) California Cabernet Sauvignon. Plum, coffee, black currant, with a touch of tobacco and green cooking herbs were well balanced with the 14.5% alcohol.
Finished on the trailing palate and mellow spice notes.
With the 92% Cabernet Sauvignon there was a dollop of Merlot and Petit Verdot.
