Castellare Il Poggiale 2009 Chianti Classico Riserva, $28.04-$32.99, 91 points, had this bright transparent black currant to strawberry color with a clear rim.
The aroma affects you with the pour, having a lovely gentle floral fragrance as well as red fruit, plus hints of sweet cooking spice; these intensify with the customary swishing and swirling of the glass.
Dry, describes my first impression of this red wine (90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, and 5% Ciliegiolo). Though just shy of a medium body and texture, this complex and refreshing red wine of good acidity and mild tannin, has an abundance of red fruit, tart red cherry, pomegranate, and strawberry, but there are nuanced dried herbs and earth as well.
The finish continues a declining palate, but builds with spice, a touch of warmth (13.5% alcohol), and that earthiness.
