Neal Rutherford Dust Vineyards Napa Valley 2010 Zinfandel, $20.39-$25.99, 92 points, needs an early commentary: many a Bordeaux, Chianti, and Rioja lover will be amazed at the complexity, roundness, and drink-ability of this worthy red wine of note; not just because it is reasonably priced, but because it is a great red wine; Neal produced only 1,424 cases, and I intend to get-me-more while the 'gettin-is good."
Really, there's only one question that remains: How long will this wine cellar, especially when Zinfandel wines drink best young? Well, I hope to keep that information A' Comin'!
To the wine:
Swirl the glass and arches/bows drape gracefully with the nearly unnoticeable 14.7% alcohol.
Light through the wine shimmers deep ruby circled clear at the rim, while reflected colors of purple and burgundy compliment the tapestry.
Aromatic earth, red licorice, cinnamon, and clove are up front, but hidden hints of dried marjoram and coriander add complexity and beauty to the bouquet.
The medium body carries good acidity, mild tannin, controlled tart red fruit with plenty of plum that is well tampered with blackberry and tardy spice in the moderate finish.

Dennis, this one sounds fantastic! Have not seen it, but really hope that I do.
ReplyDeleteNick, for shy of $21 you could hardly find a better Zin, and if I know you (Ridge-lover that you are), you'll find one of these, after which I hope you're not disappointed.
DeleteI really need to try this particular wine. Wonder if they offer an inter winery discount (it's the only way to buy wine).
