Marcarini, Brunate, Italy 2011 Barolo (DOCG), $50.99-$59.99, 92 points, wafted an aromatic soft dusty red cherry perfume.
Medium-bodied with bright acidity and fine grainy tannins (quite a dry red wine) supported a floral flavor profile nicely accented with cherry, black tea, and marzipan.
Finished with hints of spearmint, spice, oak, and a well-functioning 14% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my spinach parmesan ravioli in a beefy tomato sauce.
Color was a complex purple red.

Mmm, whilst I don't actually like marzipan, I do like that almondy thing in wine.
ReplyDeleteVG: Very subtle!
