Petroni (Sonoma Valley, California) Poggio Alla Pietra Estate Grown 2011 Sangiovese, $28.04-$74.99, 90 points, was a 'silk' wine red with sweeping glass sheeting and a broadly clearing wine ring emerging from its penumbra.
Showed a profuse cedar potpourri aroma with fragrant red cherry and mocha.
Full-bodied with good acidity and grainy supportive tannin which carried luscious coffee, plum, truffle, and cherry flavors.
Finished well on red fruit, warm spices, and a potent 15% alcohol.
900 cases produced.
Paired perfectly with burgers and chips.
Some have ridiculed the Italian name, but 'in vino veritas'; not your typical varietal-specific Chianti, but a delicious red wine nevertheless; would make an interesting choice at a "what-wine-is-this" (blind wine) party.

Agree. This would be fab in a blind tasting.
