Empire Napa Valley 'Winemaker's Reserve' 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon

Empire Napa Valley 'Winemaker's Reserve' 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, $16.99-$39.99, 89 points, poured an impregnable purple/red with a broad clear wine ring and copious stained tears.
A lovely bouquet of homogeneous black fruits with an emphasis on currants nuanced with cocoa and thyme pleased.
The full body was smooth, showed good acidity, supported lush mellow tannins, and produced flavors of blackberry liqueur, earth, and red raspberry.
Finished fair on the trailing palate, white pepper, licorice, and a modest 13.5% alcohol.
Paired well with my spice rubbed Australian rack of lamb.

  1. Sigh...Reserve, so over used...double sigh.

    1. VG: Reserve and 'old vines' out of the USA can be meaningless, but more relevant from Italy and Spain.
