Assobio Quinta dos Murças’ 2017 Douro Red Wine, $11.69-$13.99, 90 points, poured an opaque purple/red with ruby highlights, copious stained legs, and a broad clear meniscus.
First whiffs gave-off aromas of coffee bean, red raspberry, and hints of dried parsley, clove, and thyme.
A medium-bodied dry red wine with good acidity, a firm underlayment of tannin, upfront juicy with intense white pepper and cayenne developing.
Finished long on a spicy red cherry and a well-balanced 13.5% alcohol.
Paired fine with my sweet sausage pizza.
Good and very good wine doesn't have to cost a fortune, and this is one of those, but keep in mind this is a food-friendly wine and not a soft Merlot.
