Bodegas y Viñedos del Jalón Calatayud Las Pizarras 2009 Garnacha, $7.99-$13.99, 88 points, was an opaque rosewood-red with a broad transparent rim-ring and considerable draping.
Black and red cherry, chocolate, and sea breezes on the nose were pleasant.
Medium to medium-plus body (very dry red wine) carried good acidity, moderate grainy tannin, and flavors that reflected nose with a hint of licorice.
Finished fair with good warm spice notes, accelerating tannin, and a balanced 14% alcohol.
Not a complex red wine, but a very good table wine, and for the price, it is hard to beat.
